Shown here is a beautifully colored scrimshaw of a nude standing in a lake. This design presented some challenges - in particular, creating the illusion of translucency in the foreground water. The effect was successful because I juxtaposed reflected light of the sky next to the dark reflections of the rocks.

The ivory is Mammoth and measures 2" x 3". The base is honed from Figured Koa and measures 3/4" x 1 3/8" x 2 1/2".

Shown below are images revealing the process of scrimming this design. The thumbnails displayed are larger than the original. The distortions are due to the curvature of the ivory.
